What you paste

When you ring a crontab, the text is read to make the page and then dropped; it is not stored or logged. Before anything is shown or saved, text that looks like a password, token or key is replaced with ********. Please do not paste secrets anyway.

Bell Book

If you press Save, a Bell Book is created: a random 12-character code, the schedule's name, time zones, the (blanked) crontab text, any run lengths you typed, and dates. The crontab text is kept as you pasted it apart from that blanking, so an email address in a MAILTO line or a command is kept too; leave it out if you prefer. The site asks for no name, email address or account. The code is kept in a cookie (__Host-cb_book) on your device and in the private link. A book unseen for 400 days is deleted with its schedules; "Forget this Bell Book" deletes it at once.

Cookies

__Host-cb_book (only after you save or open a book) and __Host-cb_csrf (on pages with a form, to stop other sites posting forms as you). No advertising or analytics cookies, no analytics services and no fonts from other sites. The only script and images from another site are the adengine.us banner ad on the public pages, described under Advertising; it counts one page view per page as a daily total.

Advertising

Since 17 October 2026 the public pages of this site (home, the empty Ring a crontab form, Build a line, The twelve checks, Pricing and About) show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind Chore Bell and Hillbilly Hosting. For now the ads are for WeldonPC’s own services. A rung crontab, your Bell Book and its schedules, this page, the terms and error pages show no ad and load nothing from adengine.us, so nothing you paste is ever near it.

To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your address (IP address), your browser type and the address of this site with those requests: the site’s address only, never the page’s.

  • No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
  • How your address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC’s own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
  • What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
  • Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser’s site, which has its own privacy policy.
  • Nothing about you is sold or shared.

Limits and server logs

To stop abuse, the site counts checks, saves, new Bell Books and saved-schedule views per address (for IPv6, per /64 block) per hour and day, keeping only a salted hash of the address for two days. The web server's own access logs are kept by the hosting server for a short time for security.

Payments

Payments are not switched on (preview). When they are, PayPal will handle them; this site will keep a pass's hashed key, plan, status and end date, PayPal's payment reference for it, and a log of PayPal's payment notices (their reference, type and result). Card details never reach this site.
