About
A bell for the chores your server does at night.
Most websites have a few jobs that run on a timer: a WordPress task runner, a nightly database copy, a weekly report. They live in a crontab, written in five terse fields that are easy to get almost right.
Chore Bell reads those lines and says, in plain words, when each one will really ring: on which days, at what minute, in which time zone, and what happens on the two nights a year when the clocks change. It checks for a dozen common mistakes, drawn from the cron manual pages, calendar arithmetic and common hosting practice, and hands back a crontab with the fixes made.
What it is not
- Not a web host. Hillbilly Hosting sells no hosting, and Chore Bell works for crontabs from any host.
- Not a monitor. It never connects to your server and cannot see whether a job ran. It reads the text you paste.
- Not a scheduler. It runs nothing on anyone's behalf.
Who runs it
Chore Bell is a small self-service site built and maintained by WeldonPC.com. There is no staff reading what you paste, and no support line on this site; the method page explains everything it checks.
The name
A chore bell hung by the back door rang the same chores at the same hours every day. Hillbilly Hosting is the family of small, plain hosting helpers this site belongs to.
